Stonework
Croft's masons and stone carvers are highly experienced in all aspects of stone repair and restoration. We undertake large and small projects and we are experienced main contractors as well as specialist sub-contractors.
Work ranges from minor stonework repairs and pointing to major projects that take many months to complete.
The company's work involves churches, historic buildings, ancient monuments and listed buildings.
There are essentially 3 types of stone masons employed in the construction and restoration industry:
- Banker masons specialise in carving stones into intricate geometrical shapes and produce anything from stones with simple chamfers to tracery windows, detailed mouldings and the more classical architectural building masonry.
- Carvers cross the line from craft to art, and use their artistic ability to carve stone into foliage, figures, animals or abstract designs.
- Fixer masons specialise in the fixing of stones onto buildings mainly using traditional methods.
Croft employs all 3 types of the stone masons described and they have an excellent knowledge of stone types, their applications and best uses.
A good illustration of Croft's capabilities in stonemasonry is the work undertaken at the recently completed scheme at Stoke Rochford Hall where we replaced large sections of a seriously fire damaged hall.
